Kon Tiki

Kon Tiki By Thor Heyerdahl

In 1947 Thor Heyderdahl set out to prove that ancient peoples from South America could have sailed to Polynesia on rafts built of native materials.  The crew sailed just such a raft 4300 miles over the Pacific Ocean in 101 days.  At the end, they crashed on a reef but were rescued by nearby islanders.  Thus Heyerdahl successfully proved that the trip could  have been made.  He published the tale of his journey and called it Kon-Tiki, which was the name of the raft.
